Christina Moynihan MSW, LICSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker providing psychotherapy and consulting services in DC and Northern Virginia. My professional social work career began in 2004 upon graduating with a Master’s degree in clinical social work and specialization in children & families from Fordham University. Practicing social work and psychotherapy in New York City community mental health agencies and maintaining a private practice of my own allowed me to treat people from all walks of life. With focus and dedication, my patients have permitted me to guide them through a difficult relationship, acute depressive episode, or a new HIV diagnosis – just to name a few of life’s challenges. While practicing in New York City, I also studied at the Training Institute for Mental Health, a training program for mental health professionals in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, group and couple therapy.

In 2007, I relocated to the DC Metro area and served as the Clinical Social Worker within the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University Hospital, specializing in providing care to those individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. I utilize a strength-based, psycho-dynamic blend of interventions tailored individually for each patient, couple, and family. Since 2007, I have actively participated on numerous committees with the District of Columbia’s HIV/AIDS Administration addressing HIV support services to community residents, have served as co-investigator to a research study aimed to eliminate barriers to accessing mental health care through patient navigation interventions, and have managed the site implementation of behavioral research studies funded by the NIH and the CDC.

I have the honor of being amongst esteemed colleagues as an invited and selected presenter at a variety of national conferences. I am proud to have returned to private practice and social work consulting and am licensed to practice in DC, Virginia, and New York. I strictly adhere to the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers. My goal is to design and individualize proposals, presentations, and plans of care for each patient, behavioral health practitioner, or organization that I work with.
